Private Funeral for Prince Friso Set for Friday in Lage Vuursche
A private funeral for His Royal Highness Prince Johan Friso Bernhard Christiaan David will take place on Friday in Lage Vuursche, in the municipality of Baarn.
After the service in the Stulpkerk in Lage Vuursche, the Prince will be laid to rest in the adjacent cemetery.
The service will be led by the Rev. C. A. ter Linden. A memorial service will take place later this year.
On Monday, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander announced with deep regret that Prince Friso passed away at Palace Huis ten Bosch in the Hague at age 44.
Prince Friso died of complications related to the hypoxic brain injury, which he suffered as the result of his skiing accident in Lech, Austria, on Feb. 17, 2012.
In November 2012, Prince Friso began showing signs of limited awareness ("minimal consciousness") and remained in that state. In early July 2013, he was transferred to Palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague, the Netherlands.
The Royal family wholeheartedly thanks all persons who have looked after Prince Friso for their excellent and devoted care.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Frans Timmermans shared his condolences on his Facebook page.
Translated, he wrote: “A dark day. Rest in peace, Prince Friso. Princess Mabel, Luana and Zaria, Princess Beatrix, and other loved ones who have to bear this great loss, can count on the sympathy of all Dutch, anywhere in the world. We mourn the passing of a special man always, and always committed himself to others.”
