The Netherlands promises to offer an exciting series of events both in the USA and throughout the ‘Arts Holland’ District. The program varies from old masters and music to cutting-edge dance, design and a special theatre festival in Pittsburgh.
Tonight at the Cue Art Foundation in New York, Rob de Vos, Consul General of the Netherlands, and Conrad van Tiggelen, Director of the NBTC presented the full program through Arts Holland and Orange Alert.
Arts Holland lets visitors experience the quality, density and richness of Dutch arts, heritage, museums, design, fashion, theatre and more across four major cities- Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. These closely and culturally connected cities create one large district of wonder, beauty and inspiration making it easy for any traveler to explore. Arts Holland, the World's Arts District!
Orange Alert, your new go-to blogs for information on the Dutch cultural scene in the US, presents a series of Dutch cultural events in the USA. In February 2012, the special ‘Distinctively Dutch’ festival in Pittsburgh will open, featuring the best of Dutch Dance, Theatre, Opera, Film, Visual Arts and Literature – all different, all new. The festival will feature shows from renowned theatre companies as Theatre Group Amsterdam and world famous choreographers like Jiri Kylian and Michael Schumacher. Additionally there will be workshops and lectures on art. The ‘Distinctively Dutch’ festival opens with the Dance Works Rotterdam’s Anatomica on February 18 and ends in June.
Consul General De Vos said: “It makes me proud to see the great interest in the US for our cultural heritage. Our shared history started in the age of Rembrandt and our strong economic ties today are reflected in the work of cutting-edge architecture of Ben van Berkel and the design by the likes of Hella Jongerius. We are really two countries, one spirit, united by a vision of the future.”
There is even much more Dutch culture to enjoy in the US: from Old Masters like Rembrandt to today's hottest visual artists, cutting edge architecture by the likes of Winka Dubbeldam and Ben van Berkel, and innovative design by icons such as Hella Jongerius. On the Dutch Performing Arts blog, you will find information on classical music from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and dance music from DJs Armin van Buren and Tiësto, top contemporary dance from Jiri Kylian and the Netherlands Dace Theatre (NDT), the latest Dutch films, intriguing Dutch theatre, and much, much more.
